Red rice ( Vary mena) from Madagascar

Madagascar red rice – 250g

Also known as vary mena, red rice is one of the oldest varieties of rice in Madagascar. This one comes from the southeast of the island, more exactly from Farafangana.

This rice is rich in fiber, vitamin B6, antioxidant and minerals. It would help regulate cholesterol.

In Madagascar, we cook rice without salt. We advise you to prepare it like this: rinse the rice in cold water, put in a saucepan, add the water (2 times the volume of the rice), bring to a boil until the water is completely absorbed. You can serve it with vegetables, meat, dried seeds or simply with the famous “romazava”. Moreover for the followers of Romazava Moringa, do not miss our dried moringa leaves!

Out of stock

For the record, the cultivation of rice is central to Madagascar’s economic activity.

We are very big consumers of rice, we cannot do without it!

Rice is to the Malagasy what bread is to the French.

It is consumed morning, noon, evening. If you eat at our table, the host will surely serve you red rice or white rice.
